2. Reflection

Here are some of the main reasons I chose Medium as my blogging website for LIS 724:

  1. It mirrors a social media website. To be honest, the term “blog” already seems like a thing of the past. When I first hear the word “blog” I instantly think of the movie Julia and Julia, where an amateur cook starts a Julia Childs blog. Now, it seems more like people are “vloggers” instead of “bloggers”. The main reason I chose Medium was because of its “story” option that sounds like Instagram “story”. You can edit your profile and add tags. You can follow other authors like a social media website allows the option to follow.
  2. An easy to use format. Using this website was also quick and easy, something I keep in mind when I’m completing homework. I want to get it done quickly! And I know that readers want to read something quick.

The follow option is one way this website will help my PLN. I can “follow” other librarians and their blogs and stay up to date on their work. The website also has an option to share to other websites or send a link, something I think will be helpful to my patrons. Even if a patron hasn’t heard of this blogging website, I can share the link to a Facebook page or something else more popular.
